Suggested Target Sockets/Connections

Question

What method of connecting to my target system do you recommend?

Answer

DIP Sockets

Dip sockets with machined contacts should be used to connect the MetaLink Emulator to the target system.

PLCC Sockets

PLCC sockets manufactured by Robinson Nugent have been found to provide the best connection to the target system for the MetaLink Emulator.

Surface mount QFP

The MetaLink Emulator supports surface mount devices using "feet" made by Ironwood Electronics. The Ironwood "foot" has the same footprint of the surface mount microcontroller and is soldered directly to the target system in place of the microcontroller. The emulator can then be plugged into the "foot". A target system that is equipped with an Ironwood foot can still be tested with the real microcontroller using a Chip Carrier Adapter, also made by Ironwood.

Example part numbers:
Ironwood Foot for 44 QFP: SF-QFE44SA-L-01
    Ironwood Chip Carrier Adapter: CA-QFE44SA-L-Z-T-01
